Farewell ICT@FNPS Blog

December19

Today is the last day of the school year for Footscray North Primary School.  Today we farewelled our Grade 6 students at the final assembly held at the end of the day.  We wish them all well as they move on to the next stage of their education at various Secondary Colleges.  We also farewelled a number of staff as 2014 comes to a close.

In 2015 I will not be teaching ICT or PE, as I will be moving back into a classroom to teach a grade 3/4 class. So this will be the last post on the ICT@FNPS Blog.  I have enjoyed using this Blog as a classroom tool for ICT lessons as well as sharing news of what has been happening at FNPS.  I have also enjoyed seeing all the visitors to this blog marked on my cluster map which spans 5 continents.  I know some of those visitors have been past students both here in Australia and overseas.

I will be blogging with my new class in 2015 so you can follow us at

Divisional Athletic Sports

September10

Tuesday September 9th  saw 11 of our students attend the Divisional Athletic Sports at Keilor Athletic Track.  It was a blustery day and the conditions were not the best for many of the events, with the high jump pole being blown off and the hurdles falling over, but we all had the same conditions so we tried our best.  We had  3 students who came places – Davina came third in the 11 year old girl’s high jump, Sela came third in the 12 year old girl’s shot-put and Damien came second in the 12 year old boy’s shot-put.  Damien will go on to the Regional Athletic Sports which will be held in the second week of next term. We wish him well.

District Athletic Sports

September10

On Friday September 5th we had 38 students attend the District Athletic Sports at Newport Athletic Track.  We had lovely weather for the day and we had some great performances.  Students competed in a variety of events – discus, shot-put, long jump, high jump, triple jump, a variety of running races, relays and hurdles.  We had lots of parents and grandparents come down to the track to support the students and cheer on students from our school.  Thanks to Chris Powell and Kate O’Neil for supervising the students on the day.

School Disco and Book Week Parade

We had two exciting events at our school this week. Firstly was a school disco on Thursday night. It was held in our Grade 5/6 area BER building. Then on Friday morning we celebrated the last day of Book Week with a parade of book characters in our school hall.

Athletics Sports Day

August17

On Thursday August 14th we had our school Athletic Sports for students in grades 3 – 6.  We were lucky with the weather and all the students enjoyed the day.  We had several great performances and some students had several ribbons to show at the end of the events.  Some of these students will go onto represent our school in the District Athletic Sports to be held on Friday September 5th at the Newport Athletic Track. Thanks to all the staff who worked very hard to make sure the day ran smoothly.

Juxtapositions

August17

For this task the students were asked to choose one of the given 6 artworks from the National Gallery of Australia’s website, to re-create using a painting app or program.  Once they had finished their re-creation of the artwork, their next job was to create the juxtaposition of the original artwork and their own re-creation. Students used programs and apps such as PicCollage, Word and Notabilty to create their juxtapositions.  Here are some examples from students in Grade 3/4.

Unfortunately some of the juxtapositions were cut off when posted into the blog, so if you would like to see the full picture just double click on it to open it up.

Original artworks are from the National Gallery of Australia website – Sandy Opal, Sidney Nolan, Margaret Preston, Roy Lichtenstein, Henri Matisse, Natori Shunsen
